GEORGE NEWS - The George office of Home Affairs was closed the whole day today, Monday 8 June, due to a monthly disinfection exercise. Members of the public were queuing at the offices earlier today.
The office will be open again tomorrow, Tuesday 9 June, according to Western Cape Provincial Manager for Home Affairs Yusuf Simons.
He said the rumour that the office was closed because of a positive coronavirus case among the staff was not true.
"This is a precautionary measure to protect our staff and the public. We wanted to have it done over the weekend, but unfortunately the contractor could only make it today and we didn't want to postpone it as it has been a month since the previous disinfection."
He said after the disinfection, the office has to stand for a few hours before it can be reopened for the public.
