WESTERN CAPE NEWS - The Western Cape Minister of Education, Debbie Schafer confirmed that 82.8% of learners in the Western Cape passed the 2017 National Senior Certificate examination.
Schafer says they are pleased that the Western Cape has again achieved the highest percentage of bachelor’s passes in the country, with 39.1% of learners achieving this quality pass.
Schafer says the Western Cape achieved the highest pass rate in mathematics with 73.9%.
The Western Cape has also retained the most learners in the system between Grades 10 and 12. Schafer says their focus will remain on whether they have increased the numbers of candidates passing and the quality of those passes.
She says they are analysing the results to determine which schools did not perform well and in which subject areas.
Once the results have been analysed, the department will engage with their senior management regarding a strategy for improving the results at the end of 2018.
