According to new signage erected near the airport, Herolds Bay has been renamed Harolds Bay.
We don’t believe this is quite the name change that the EFF had in mind when they demanded that name places in the Western Cape be Africanised.
Basson, who was unaware of this latest accolade told the George Herald (Not Harold) he feels on top of the world. “I was unaware of the name change, but I feel very honoured. Thank you so much, I am deeply humbled by this recognition.”
Basson received the Rotary Paul Harris Recognition Award on 9 June for ensuring that “George is a city where everything works”.
However Pierre du Plessis, the reader who sent in the photographs of the signage depicting Herold’s Bay new name, believes it to be a spelling mistake. “It is gross negligence and doesn’t sit well with me. Dit steek my dwars in die krop.”
