GEORGE NEWS - The Usapho Indlu community development organisation is busy putting together an action plan to help their beneficiaries in Zone 7 in Thembalethu after many of their homes were flooded.
According to Sally Versveld, the CEO, their church was also flooded. Women from the community have had to dig a trench to prevent water from accumulating into the kitchen and bathroom.
“We would like to hand out necessities to beneficiaries. A lot of them, among whom some elderly people, lost electricity earlier this week and were not able to cook, so our soup kitchen will be preparing additional meals to the usual batches. Some meals will be frozen so that we can have some available over the weekend where needed.”
They are in need of towels and blankets as well as food donations, including potatoes and onions for the meals to be prepared. Donations of cooked soup or cooked eggs and bread would also be very welcome to be handed out to families who do not have power.
Donations may be dropped off with Madelaine at Usapho Indlu’s office at 122 Cradock Street between 08:30 and 12:00 tomorrow, Friday 8 May.
Usapho Indlu will also help with a mop-up operation from tomorrow.
