GEORGE NEWS - The Friends of the George Museum is planning a very active and full programme of activities to enhance the role of the George Museum as the centre of cultural activities in the city.
Schools
A colouring competition will be held in collaboration with schools in the city during February and March. It will focus on the family and include a family tree. During the June / July holidays a two-to-three days arts course for learners of schools in George will be held in the George Museum. Various events will take place during the year to include and increase the participation of schools in the activities of the museum.
Musical evening
The Friends of the George Museum also plans a classical music evening in May, and a dinner and wine tasting evening in April to raise funding for the activities of the George Museum. A barn dance is also on the programme later this year, and a thanksgiving evening will be held during October to celebrate the contribution of the community to the George Museum. Various other activities are in planning stages.
Academical seminar
The Friends plan to organise an academical seminar / workshop during September with the focus on cultural and family history, heritage and the importance of the George Museum as a cultural and research centre.
Marketing
Melissa Blaauw has been appointed as the marketing officer and is doing a great job to get business, schools and societies involved in the activities of the Friends.
The Friends try to give support to the manager of the George Museum, Lorrinda Hakimi, and her staff in various ways and means.
