GEORGE NEWS - George fitness enthusiasts will have two opportunities to work up a sweat for a good cause this October, culminating in the city's first Gobi Hybrid Games.
Gobi Fitness will kick off the activities with a rebound fitness morning at the BYD George showroom from 08:30 to 12:30 on Saturday 10 October, in support of ILoveBoobies.
Participation costs R100, with all proceeds going to the organisation, which provides free breast cancer screenings to women who may otherwise struggle to access them.
According to Gobi Fitness owner Monique Pearson, a screening costs R500, meaning every five participants will fund one screening.
A bra collection bin will also be available. Donated bras are distributed to women reached through the screening programme. The collection will continue at Gobi Fitness for the remainder of October.
Attention then turns to the inaugural Gobi Hybrid Games at Déjà Vu Equestrian on Saturday 31 October.
Teams of two or relay teams of four will alternate between 900m runs and strength stations over eight rounds. Two weight options are available at each station, making the event accessible to ordinary gym-goers and experienced athletes.
Pearson said about 70% of entrants are travelling to George from elsewhere, including Johannesburg, Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay.
The day starts at 07:00 with a 4km rave run featuring a live DJ and colour powder. It is open to all ages, and walkers are welcome.
The Gobi Hybrid Games supports ILoveBoobies and is listed on the organisation's 2026 event calendar alongside several major sporting events.
