Update
GEORGE NEWS - Two informal structures housing nine people were destroyed in a fire in Zone 9, Thembalethu, on Wednesday morning, 12 August.
The fire was reported at the Thembalethu Fire Station by members of the public at 08:21, with George firefighters arriving four minutes later.
Firefighters found two large informal structures fully alight. One comprised six rooms and housed six people, while the second had three rooms and was occupied by three people.
Crews managed to protect several nearby informal structures and containers, preventing the fire from spreading further.
The police and several George Municipality departments also attended the scene, while Tabata Street was temporarily closed to traffic to allow emergency operations.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
