The awards ceremony was hosted by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on Friday 29 August, and it marked the 11th edition of this prestigious event.
Held under the theme 'Recognising Excellence in Education', the awards celebrated the outstanding achievements by districts, schools and educators across South Africa.
Bridgton Secondary, representing the district, clinched top honors in the category of upkeep and maintenance of school facilities: secondary schools.
In addition, the district secured second place in the highest participation vs achievement in NSC (2022-2024) in the mathematics category, as well as second place in physical sciences.
The Eden and Central Karoo district director, Jewel Jonkers, expressed his gratitude for the recognition on the national stage.
"We are overwhelmed and grateful for these remarkable achievements. This recognition is a reflection of hard work and dedication, moving from success to significance. Maths and science remain a priority in our district," said Jonkers.
With these awards, the DBE aims to promote a culture of excellence in education and ensure that districts and schools remain motivated to raise the standard of teaching and learning. They highlight the vital role played by education districts in strengthening the country's education system.
Winners were selected from all nine provinces, with recognition given for exceptional innovation, performance and commitment to improving the quality of learning and teaching.
