GEORGE NEWS - The driver of the black Audi Q5 that was involved in the horror crash that claimed the life of Danielle van Jaarsveld (44) on Sunday 6 November 2022, briefly appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 3 October.
The case was postponed until 25 October for his legal representative, Nikita Zackey of Brand & Van der Bergh Attorneys, to obtain a copy of the docket and to consult with her client.
Gareth Webster (39) is facing charges of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving after the Audi he was driving crashed into Van Jaarsveld's Kia Rio on Swartvlei Beach Road between the Sedge Links golf club and Swartvlei Beach.
Van Jaarsveld died in the head-on collision, while her sister-in-law, Monique van Zyl (29), a passenger in the car, is still recovering from serious injuries. She underwent weeks of treatment in the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town after the accident.
The women were on their way to the beach when the Audi came from the opposite direction and the two cars collided.
The road is known for its serpentine bends and bumps and there are signs warning motorists to keep to the speed limit of 60km/h. The Kia was completely wrecked.
Webster, an employee of Tavcor Motor Group, and his passenger did not incur any serious injuries.
