GEORGE NEWS - Taking a stand against the country-wide pandemic of domestic violence that is also festering in George, more than 150 concerned residents, survivors, and experts gathered at the Pacaltsdorp community hall on Sunday 13 October.
The event, led by Legally You and Eden FM, sparked crucial conversations about the issue that carried a clear message - domestic violence is everyone's battle.
The event provided a safe platform for open and honest discussions about the realities faced by victims and survivors in the community, while attendees shared insights, resources, and possible solutions.
"We need more cooperation between government bodies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and the wider community to support victims more effectively and prevent further violence," said the director of Legally You, Angelique Vezasie.
The CEO and founder, Advocate Marilyn Scheepers Olifant, reiterated the importance of these dialogues and their objectives.
"We would like to extend our gratitude to all partners and participants for their contributions to this important event. The success of this dialogue is a testament to the collective commitment to ensuring a safer, more supportive environment for everyone affected by domestic violence," she said.
Speakers also included Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais, and George Mayor Jackie von Brandis.
According to Scheepers Olifant, this dialogue is one of many to come in the ongoing effort to tackle domestic violence. "We hope that events of this nature will lead to meaningful changes and improved support for victims."
