GEORGE NEWS - The electrification of 27 homes in Ikapa Informal Settlement has been finalised, with the final of three Short Term Urgent Electrification projects being completed just in time for Christmas.
Council prioritised the projects in March, using the available budget for the 2020/21 financial year.
The cost per structure for electrification, which includes a prepaid meter, is between R10 000 and R13 000. Each resident received their own electrical prepaid meter in their own name, with power supply of 40 amps.
One of the homeowners, Nosango Silangulana, said that she is extremely happy to have electricity.
"We have now stopped all unsafe connections and/or illegal connections because we have electricity at Ikapa. Thank you."
