GEORGE NEWS - The newly appointed Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Phumzile Cetyana, hit the ground running since his appointment.
He assumed duties on 1 November and already visited police stations in Mossel Bay, George and Knysna where he engaged with community leaders.
Cetyana is not new to this area. He has been part of the Eden and Da Gamaskop clusters since 2015 and acted as the district commissioner for a short stint before he was promoted and appointed as the district commissioner for the OR Tambo District in the Eastern Cape.
He joined the police in 1991 and served at various police stations such as Oudtshoorn, Athlone, Lingelethu West, Khayelitsha and Kuils River, after he completed his basic training in Hammanskraal.
"I am glad to be back in the Garden Route and look forward to continuing with the work with all role players to ensure that the public is safe," Cetyana said.
"Our Safer Festive Season operations are already in place and deployments will be stepped up closer to the festive period.
"During my visits to crime hotspot areas, we've analysed the crime, and response systems are in place."
