GEORGE NEWS - Two well-known dance studios in George are joining forces to raise funds for Lydia van der Merwe (18), a young dancer with international aspirations.
Lydia was recently accepted into the prestigious trainee programme at Arrows International in Oklahoma, USA, and will depart on 2 September to start her dance career. She is a student of both Elvinia's Dance Academy and Melissa Page School of Dance.
"As teachers, we are extremely proud to support this exceptional dancer and humble student as she pursues her dream of dance at Arrows," says Elvinia Manuel.
The fundraising concert will be held at the Market Community Theatre at 15:00 and 18:30 on 2 August. The production includes a selection of works from both studios, with the highlight of the evening, Chains Break, an original dancework choreographed by Lydia herself. This piece was inspired by Galatians 5:1: "So Christ has truly set us free."
Tickets cost R120 and are available at 083 308 5674. All proceeds go towards helping Lydia's calling for the international stage.
