GEORGE NEWS - The search for the two teenage boys who went missing at Victoria Bay yesterday after going for a swim is continuing.
A search by the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) started late yesterday afternoon but had to be stopped when it got dark. It resumed early this morning.
Edward Vuyisile Dupisani, the father of one of the boys, Xhanti Salmani (17), has been at the beach since very early this morning.
Dupisani said his son and his friend were very close. They were among a group of friends who had gone to Vic Bay at about 17:00 yesterday afternoon.
As soon as they arrived at the beach, the two of them went for a swim.
They apparently entered the sea near the rocks on the northeastern side of the beach.
"Apparently a rip current took them soon after they were in the water. Xhanti's friend apparently grabbed Xhanti in an effort to help him, but both disappeared under the water. The older boy who drove them here immediately phoned the NSRI and Sanele's mom, who let me know," said Dupisani.
George Herald is withholding the name of the the second boy as we have been unable to make contact with his parents.
More information will be shared as it becomes available.
The search is continuing.
