GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route Biosphere Reserve (GRBR) is developing a system of cooperative governance to secure the clean water supply and environmental integrity of priority areas in the reserve, according to GRBR executive chief Bianca Currie.
This includes working on water stewardship and alien invasive clearing projects in our key catchments to free up clean water as a vital ecosystem service supplying the region's economy.
Priority areas are being identified by a working group of 40 high-level decision-making participants established by the GRBR two years ago. They have a specific focus on water risk mitigation and management in the region.
An issue the GRBR has to address is pollution of rivers - and ultimately estuary environments - from herbicides and industrial run-off to domestic waste and sewage.
