All nurses from the three basic nursing courses, namely professional, enrolled and auxiliary nurses who have completed their training since 2010 were honoured.
The last decade has been characterised by important milestones in the development of nursing education in the Southern Cape. The nursing school of the George Hospital re-opened its doors in 2007.
The implementation of the Integrated Training and Education Framework of the Western Cape Government Health facilitated the grouping together of all the governmental nursing education institutions in the Western Cape under the Western Cape College of Nursing (WCCN) from April 2012, and the establishment of the South Cape/Karoo Nursing Campus in George in January this year, which incorporated the George Hospital Nursing School.
Last week's graduation ceremony was the first to be presented under the banner of the WCCN.
