GEORGE NEWS - Two employees of a well-known vehicle testing station in George, TJ Private Vehicle Testing Station, were arrested on Friday 17 March after they allegedly fraudulently issued roadworthy permits.
According to Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani the suspects, aged 40 and 58, were arrested at their place of work in George on charges of fraud and corruption.
"I'm shocked about the situation and about the arrests. We are giving our full cooperation to the police and their investigation," said the owner of the testing station, Eugene Labuschagne.
The two suspects made their first appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrate's Court on Monday 20 March where it was postponed for their bail application on Friday 24 March.
"The operation that led to the arrest of the suspects was carried out by the Hawks' Serious Corruption Investigation team based in George, Crime Intelligence and Public Order Policing, members of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) as well as the officials from the Department of Transport and Public Works," said Hani.
