GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - The importance of travelling safely was highlighted yesterday, Wednesday 21 October, when a roadblock was held on the N2 near the Garden Route Mall as part of Transport Month.
Several traffic officials of the Western Cape Department of Transport and the George Municipality took part.
Vehicles travelling in an eastern direction were stopped to be checked for roadworthiness, driver fitness and driver's licences. Little BreathScan kits were used to test motorists' alcohol limits.
Motorists were also handed informative pamphlets, one of which explains in simple language the amount of alcohol a driver can take before he/she is unfit to drive.
Zamikhaya Tunywashe, road safety officer of the Western Cape Department of Transport, said that a number of roadblocks are held in the province as part of Transport Month to enforce the law and educate the public.

Drivers are informed about their responsibilities, as most accidents are caused by driver error.
He said in general, motorists are cooperating at roadblocks.
