GEORGE NEWS - The roar of about 120 V8 engines will reverberate through George tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday 3 August, as the annual Thunder Tour will be making its way to Town Lodge at the Garden Route Mall from Graaff-Reinet.
From George they will depart to Oudtshoorn at 07:00 the next morning.
The tour is an annual seven-day road trip that culminates in the ultimate road show.
Mainly V8s like muscle cars, street rods, rat rods and super cars are allowed to take part in the tour, with the exception of the flat 6 Porsche and GRRs, which are the only six cylinder cars allowed as they are classified as super cars.
Each year the tour starts at Cars In The Park in Pretoria on the first Sunday of August, heading off in a different direction each year.
This year they drove from Pretoria to Parys on the first day, then to Bloemfontein and Graaff-Reinet. Tomorrow they will visit George and then continue to Oudtshoorn.
From Oudtshoorn they will travel to Montagu and then to Cape Town, where the final show and glitzy prize-giving dinner will be held.
In every town they overnight, they have a one-hour show in the afternoon or the morning to give the town’s residents an opportunity to ogle the cars from close up.
Georgians can view these beasts on Wednesday afternoon any time from about 14:00 at Town Lodge (arrival time in George anticipated to be around 13:45).
Old and new vehicles are taking part in the 11th Thunder Tour.
