GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality wants the public to note that some of its services may be affected by the impact of Covid-19 on its staff.
In the past week the municipality has lost two officials to Covid-19, bringing the total number of officials lost to nine since March 2020.
The high rate of infections caused by the third wave has impacted the municipality substantially, with 36 officials currently Covid-19 active and a further 30 in quarantine.
While all municipal services continue to be rendered, in some directorates these services may be slower than usual due to fewer staff. The directorates of Community Services and Finance have the highest proportion of officials affected, which could result in slower refuse collection, slower response to cutting down of vegetation and limited street cleaning crews. The cashier halls are open, but hours are limited to 09:00 to 15:00 daily.
Following the announcement of the amended regulations on 28 June, a number of municipal offices have been closed to the public including libraries, halls and sport fields. A comprehensive list of how to access services online, per telephone or via e-mail to avoid coming to the municipality in person is available on the municipal website.
The following offices remain OPEN to the public with amended working hours where relevant, and unless otherwise announced as per Covid-19 measures.
Please note, access to all municipal buildings by members of the public will be limited and subject to Covid-19 protocols which include registration, temperature checking, sanitising of hands and always wearing a face mask. Depending on the size of foyers and reception areas, the number of people allowed into the offices open to the public may differ and you will be advised accordingly upon arrival. The municipality kindly requests the public to be patient and to allow for extra waiting time.
