GEORGE NEWS - Retired head of the South African defence force (SADF), Gen. Jannie Geldenhuys (83), passed away in an Alzheimer’s care centre in George early this morning.
Geldenhuys led the SADF from 1985 to 1990.
He was born in Kroonstad on 5 February 1935 and joined the defence force in 1954.
Geldenhuys is survived by his wife, Marié, his daughters Annemarié and Lollie and son Bruwer.
His cremation will take place during a private family function and a memorial service will be held in the Pretoria East Dutch Reformed church in Pretoria on 20 September at 10:00.
