GEORGE NEWS - Planning a party is a stressful and expensive affair, but even more so when unexpected surprises pop up on the day. One Facebook user's bad experience with a local events company gave rise to an outcry of disgruntled and disappointed customers who also had dealings with the same company.
Nothan Muller lashed out on Facebook saying he is now seeking legal advice after he paid R18 000 for catering services not rendered by Intimate Occasions Event Planning. In his post Muller also warned Georgians not to do business with the events company.
"It was my daughter's 21st early in May and we paid for everything, including catering and draping. And on the day nothing was done. I am still waiting to get my money back," Muller told the George Herald.
In response to another post relating to the issue, a woman alleged that the same thing happened to a friend of hers when the food, champagne and the cake were never delivered on her wedding day.
Several people commented, alleging that they suffered the same fate in dealings with Intimate Occasions. One of the comments was made by another company, Fanciful Partyz and Decor Hire, claiming some of their decor pictures have been illegally used on Intimate Occasions' Facebook page.
When contacted, Intimate Occasions' owner Ilse-Lynn Le Roux said that she would rather not comment on all the negative publicity her company has been receiving. "I want to try and sort out the accusations privately to prevent further negativity," said Le Roux.
When asked about using the other company's decor images as her own on her Facebook page she claimed that to be a misunderstanding. However, shortly after receiving comments from Fanciful Partyz and Decor Hire about the photos, these posts were removed. Andrea van Wyk, owner of Fanciful Partyz and Decor Hire, told the George Herald that she is shocked by the incident.
"Using someone's photos and claiming you are fully booked because of them doesn't happen by accident," said Van Wyk. "People have phoned me asking if I had changed my company's name when they saw my decor falsely advertised on the other company's Facebook page."
