GEORGE NEWS - According to a notice received by George Municipality, the Conville, Uniondale and Gwaing municipal swimming pools will be closed during the festive season due to Covid-19.
"Following the extension of the State of Disaster under special circumstances, with regard to the Covid-19 pandemic by the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma this week, and the concerning increase in infection rate for George and surrounds
for the month of November, the George Municipality has deemed it prudent to take the decision to keep the Conville, Uniondale and Gwaing Municipal Swimming pools closed during the festive season.
"The George Municipal Disaster Management Joint Operations Centre as well as the Community Services Directorate have explored all of the relevant safety measures that can be implemented, and concluded that the municipal swimming pools will not be able to re-open safely.
"The municipality apologises for the inconvenience and remains committed to the delivery of essential services in the face of ongoing Covid-19 challenges."
