GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A man (51) who died after he was washed off the rocks at Fransmanshoek near Vleesbaai on Thursday 5 January, has been identified as Jaco du Plooy from George. Du Plooy owned a local construction company.
The incident happened while he was fishing with his son Marco (19), and his future son-in-law Hyrone Brown (21). Marco immediately called the NSRI for help and informed his mother of what had happened.
The NSRI managed to retrieve Du Plooy’s body. He was declared dead by paramedics on scene.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies confirmed the incident and said Kwanonqaba police opened an inquest docket after the body was retrieved.
“Preliminary investigation reveals, the victim went fishing with a family member and landed in the water. Emergency personnel responded and the body was retrieved by the NSRI. The victim was later declared dead by paramedics on scene,” Spies said.
Jaco du Plooy loved the ocean.
