GEORGE NEWS - As part of their vision, the Pacaltsdorp Chamber of Commerce hosted a youth development programme with the AHi Western Cape chairperson, Dr Willie Cilliers, and Meals on Wheels Oudtshoorn.
The programme was aimed at learners who will leave school at the end of 2018. "We want to invest in the development of our youth and in doing so, contribute to the economic growth of Pacaltsdorp. The programme introduced economic opportunities to the participants as well as healthy eating habits," said Pacaltsdorp Chamber chairman, Julian Klassen.
The well-disciplined learners were given a practical demonstration on how to prepare a healthy breakfast. The service providers from Meals on Wheels came from Oudtshoorn to engage with the youth.
Cilliers motivated the youth to dream, explore and use the opportunities presented to them to realise their dreams. He complimented the Pacaltsdorp Chamber for opening doors to previously disadvantaged groups to opportunities that will take them to first-world economic opportunities.
Thembulethu Chamber chairman Richard Shumi endorsed the intention of presenting numerous training opportunities to the business-minded youth in Pacaltsdorp.
Klassen said, "The Pacaltsdorp Chamber welcomed the offer of the AHi to train the youth, but will ensure that the training goes together with investment in infrastructure, market opportunities and further mentorship for the participants."
