GEORGE NEWS - A man known for his role in the drug trade in George was arrested on Saturday 22 February after police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R11 000.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, members of the Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team were strategically patrolling the N2 when they spotted the man just outside George.
“They approached the man and found a backpack in his possession. Upon searching the backpack the members found 170 Mandrax tablets hidden in a plastic bag inside. They confiscated the drugs and arrested the 34-year-old suspect on charges of dealing in drugs,” he said.
He was scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Information about his appearance has not been released.
Eden Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, lauded the vigilance of the members involved in the confiscation and arrest. He reiterated that efforts to rid communities of drugs will continue, because alcohol and drug abuse remain major contributors to serious and violent crimes in this region.
