GEORGE NEWS - A tragic accident in the Kaaimans Pass between George and Wilderness, near the turn-off to Far Hills Hotel, claimed the life of a 20-year-old man on Saturday 31 July.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies said initial information indicates that the victim was travelling in the direction of Wilderness when the BMW sedan he was driving collided with the back of a heavy Scania truck at approximately 17:45.
"The seriously injured driver of the BMW was transported to hospital by ambulance where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival," Spies said.
The driver of the truck escaped unharmed and one lane was closed for traffic until the scene was cleared.
According to information the young man, whose identity is known to George Herald, worked at a surf shop in the area and was apparently on his way to his home in Wilderness when the accident occurred.
His identity cannot be released until his next of kin, some of whom live abroad, have been notified.
