GEORGE NEWS - Post boxes of the South African Post Office (Sapo) that serviced clients at the Garden Route Mall have been removed after the closure of the post office branch there.
A frustrated post office client, Andre Groenewald, says they have been without the service for months.
"Nobody received any mail. There was no communication from the post office with clients, and now we have heard that we must pay R400 for a new post box number.
"It is not our doing that the branch has closed and that we lost our post boxes," says Groenewald.
Louise Brugman, spokesperson for the Sapo's joint business rescue practitioners, said the Garden Route Mall Post Office was closed on 23 April 2021 due to eviction by the landlord as a result of unpaid rent.
"The George Post Office is 5km away from that site and all operations and post boxes were accommodated there. The George Post Office is operational.
"Customers were advised of the branch closure by means of posting notices at the old site."
She said it sometimes happens that the landlord removes notices at old sites, which may result in a gap in communication.
Brugman did not respond to Groenewald's complaint about the R400 that has to be paid for a new post box number.
