GEORGE NEWS - Three suspects from Gugulethu in Cape Town, who allegedly stole goods to the value of R100 000 in Knysna, were denied bail after they were arrested in George.
On 16 December police officers were tipped off about four suspects travelling in a silver VW Polo.
A team of sector commanders responded and spotted the vehicle leaving the Paddagat shopping centre in Knysna Road. "Only the driver was inside the vehicle at that stage," said a police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies.
The car was stopped and searched and various items, including jewellery, cash and clothing, with an estimated value of R100 000, were found. "The items were confiscated and a 24-year-old woman was arrested," said Spies.
Two men, unaware of the situation, later approached the vehicle and were also arrested. Another suspect was found hiding at a petrol station nearby.
The four suspects, Nonelela Appie (24), Sanele Kumalo (22), Siphiwe Zuma (25) and a 17-year-old boy, were positively linked to incidents of theft in Knysna. They appeared in the George Magistrate's Court for a formal bail application where bail was denied for the three adults.
The minor was released into the care of his parents and the matter was postponed until 21 January for further investigation.
