The number one choice of the George community for a logo.
GEORGE - Five months and five themes are setting the tone for the George 200 Festival in 2011.
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow. This is the overall theme of next year’s 200 year celebrations in George.
The George 200 Festival Committee decided on five broad themes over five months to form the central part of festivities.
Events for these five months commence on a Thursday through to Sunday. Alewijn Dippenaar, chairperson of the committee, said that entry fees will be kept at the lowest possible minimum, with free admittance the ideal.
March 2011 kicks off with a Technology Expo. The development of technology since 200 years ago to where we are today and what is planned for tomorrow will be the focus of this expo to be held from the 17th to the 20th.
April 2011, the actual birthday month, is aptly named the Birthday Extravaganza. From 21 to 24 April the town’s streets will be filled with music, floats, dancing and celebrations.
A Musical Bonanza, also including thea-tre and cultural dances, is planned in the form of an extravaganza ("skouspel") from 12 to 14 May next year.
Creativity at all fronts, may it be hobbies, arts and crafts, thoughts, water saving or even the planning of our town, will be the order of the day from 11 to 14 August 2011 at the Creativity Fair.
Finally, from 10 to 13 November 2011 the Sport Indaba will be introduced. The focus will be on sports equipment, careers in sport, sports opportunities and development in sport.
All of the above will be aligned with the central, overall theme of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.

George 200 Community Events
It is the intention of the Festival Committee that these events will be supplemented with a variety of events organised by the community. Current proposals include a photo competition, an air show, religious events, best chef competition and many more.
The George community is invited to organise their own 200 year celebration events. However, all events must be re-gistered on the festival calendar.
The budgeting process of George Municipality commences on 8 February 2010. A provisional budget for the George 200 Festival will be submitted by the committee for consideration by Council.
Invitations for the design of a new logo culminated in a final list of three logos being selected. The George City Council will make the final decision on the official logo.
