GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - It has been 15 months since Danielle van Jaarsveld (44) from George tragically lost her life during a car accident on the Swartvlei Beach Road between the Sedge Links golf club and Swartvlei Beach on 6 November 2022.
Gareth Webster, the driver of the Audi Q5 that was involved in the head-on collision with Van Jaarsveld's Kia Rio, has made numerous court appearances after he was charged with culpable homicide and reckless and/or negligent driving.
Webster was in the employ of the Tavcor Motor Group (new car sales manager), at the time of the incident, and was taking part in a golf day that was held at the Links.
The incident happened not far from the club house.
Webster appeared in the George Magistrate's Court again on Thursday 15 February where the case was postponed to Wednesday 13 March as the state indicated that they are awaiting a forensic report related to the speed at which Webster was travelling. The state was granted a final extension to complete the investigation.
The report will indicate whether Webster was driving within the speed limit (60km/h) on that road.
In the meantime, Webster entered into plea bargain negotiations with the state.
"These negotiations are confidential in nature and have not yet been finalised," said Eckert Brand of Brand & Van der Bergh Attorneys, that are representing Webster.
"The state is now waiting for the forensic report before they proceed with negotiations and we will then be notified of their decision."
