GEORGE NEWS - A 37-year-old suspect was arrested in York Street on Wednesday 6 May, after mandrax to the value of R150 000 was found in his possession.
According to Western Cape Hawks spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Philani Nkwalase, this comes after an integrated intelligence driven operation by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team, George and Oudtshoorn Crime Intelligence and Eden Cluster Crime Combatting teams.
According to Nkwalase, the bust came as a result of a tip-off about a consignment of mandrax en-route to George from Johannesburg after which the Eden Cluster Crime Combating teams stopped and searched the vehicle.
"Three packs of mandrax tablets were found hidden inside a potato bag at the back seat of the vehicle," said Nkwalase.
The suspect is expected to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
