GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality is setting up a drive-through donation centre at City Hall in York Street for the safe drop-off and responsible distribution of food, hygiene products and supplies, including clothes for 78 adults, during the Covid-19 crisis.
The centre will be open from tomorrow, 5 April, seven days a week from 08:00 - 18:00.
The next time you go out for your essential shopping, and if you want to donate, go to the front entrance of City Hall at 71 York Street, drive into the driveway and stop in front of the building. You will be met by an official, dressed in protective gear, who will receive your donation and take your details to log on the donation register.
The donated items will be sanitised and then stored in and distributed from the Banquet Hall, which has been disinfected and will be managed to conform to strict health and hygiene protocol.
The centre also has fridges and freezers for storage of fresh produce. Donations will, among other things, sustain more than 80 municipal soup kitchens in vulnerable communities across the municipal area and the temporary shelter for the homeless at Rosemoor Stadium.
The centre will be managed by the George Municipality Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management departments in coordination with George Municipality Community and Social Development section.
George Municipality thanks you in advance for everything you are doing for your community.
