GEORGE NEWS - The Shoprite Group confirmed today that Checkers at St George's Square (Paddagat) was closed after an employee tested positive for Covid-19.
A spokesperson for Shoprite/Checkers, says they always consider closing a store before waiting for authorities’ instruction to do so, taking into consideration when last an employee was at work.
“We brought in a professional decontamination company to sanitise and deep clean this store.”
George Herald was told that the store will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday 17 June, after a health inspector gave the go ahead, but according to readers, the store was already open today.
A mobile clinic was at Checkers today, where workers were screened for Covid-19.
Employees complained to George Herald that they only got screened today: “The nurse did not show up yesterday, so we had to go back today.” They told George Herald it was shared with them on Saturday that the employee tested positive.
