GEORGE NEWS - To continue in their attempt to feed pets in need, the Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) has created a BackaBuddy page.
BackaBuddy is an online donation-based crowdfunding platform helping NGOs and individuals to raise money for important causes.
GRSPCA manager, Salomé Bruyns, says the money raised from their BackaBuddy page will be used to feed pets in need.
“Even the smallest donation is appreciated. The challenge we are facing is that during lockdown some pet owners don’t have any form of income and struggle to keep food on the table. Many of these animals are used to eating leftovers, but with no food on the table there are no leftovers,” she explains.
With your help, the GRSPCA can feed these animals, or at least try to feed as many as possible. Visit their BackaBuddy page here.
Besides their initiative and efforts to feed these animals, SPCA inspectors and staff are all still hard at work to keep the ship afloat. “We still tend to emergency callouts and our clinic is open to treat emergencies during this time. Unfortunately animal abuse, neglect and injuries aren’t on lockdown. We also still do inspections and deal with strays,” says Bruyns.
Despite lockdown, all the animals at the SPCA are being cared for by staff on site. Inspectors are among essential staff and therefore available to attend to calls in the community.
A major problem they are facing due to the lockdown is a loss of income. “We’ve had to cancel all our fundraising events and no boarding can take place right now. We have no means of income at this stage and depend on donations from the public,” says Bruyns.
