KNYSNA NEWS - A story with a horrible start had a happy ending for Chad Grigoriadis from George.
On Thursday evening 22 October at approximately 20:00, Grigoriadis' Mini Clubman was stolen in Market Street in the CBD while he was working late.
Shortly after realising this, he reported it to the police and posted about it on the local Facebook page, Georgiete Staan Saam.
The following day Grigoriadis received a call from August Pienaar from Rosemoor who told him that he knew where the Mini was.
"I woke up on Friday morning and saw the car standing across the road from my house," said Pienaar. "I went to have a closer look and realised that it could be a stolen vehicle. I posted photos of the car on our local WhatsApp group, Rosemoor Staan Saam (RSS), and someone else on the group said they saw a post about a stolen Mini on Facebook."
Pienaar arranged to meet Grigoriadis at Pick and Pay in Courtenay Street from where they went to the Mini in Goedehoop Street in Rosemoor.
"When I arrived on the scene, residents came out to assist and spoke about the Mini and how it ended up there. The car stopped there because the person who stole it must've hit something, as the tyre burst and it couldn't go further," said Grigoriadis.
Praise for the community
Grigoriadis has nothing but praise for members of the Rosemoor community who assisted him in his time of need. "I want to thank the amazing residents of Rosemoor who, first of all, helped me to find my car and secondly to get it home. Mr Pienaar, who is an absolute star, did not hesitate to assist me where he could. He even went to fetch my dad to help," he said.
RSS thankful for continued support
"RSS is thankful for the continued support from the community. They are our eyes and ears," said Hein Scheepers, who is assisting the group with communications.
"Efforts for community safety and development must remain alive and sustainable. We are thankful for all the volunteers who continue to sacrifice their time and energy," he said.
