GEORGE NEWS - A 28-year-old man is expected to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court today, Monday 21 July, in connection with a drug-related charge.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, members of the Outeniqua K9 Unit were conducting crime prevention patrols in Ngcakani Street, Thembalethu, on Saturday 19 July when they spotted a Volkswagen Polo parked on the pavement.
“As they approached, a man believed to be the driver fled the scene on foot. Officers gave chase and apprehended him shortly afterwards,” said Spies.
The officers returned to the vehicle and, upon searching it, discovered a black bag containing Mandrax tablets.
A total of 2 006 tablets with an estimated street value of R20 000 were confiscated.
The suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs and remains in custody.
