GEORGE NEWS - A 34-year-old man was arrested following a house robbery in Camphersdrift on Monday afternoon, 12 October, after the police tracked one of three stolen cellphones to the local taxi rank.
Southern Cape Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie confirmed that the George Police are investigating a case of house robbery following the incident in Sandy McGregor Street at approximately 15:28.
According to preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly jumped over the property's fence before gaining access to the house through a doggy door.
Once inside, he threatened the occupants with what is believed to be a replica firearm and stole three cellphones before fleeing on foot.
No one was injured.
Pojie said an integrated search led the responders to the local taxi rank after an Apple iPhone was traced.
The suspect was found in possession of the three stolen cellphones and a replica firearm.
According to the Camphersdrift, Glenbarrie and Heatherlands Neighbourhood Watch, members of the neighbourhood watch, CPF, Optima Security and SAPS worked together to locate and apprehend the suspect.
The organisation thanked everyone involved for their swift response and for providing support to the affected family.
The suspect was expected to appear in the George Magistrate's Court on Wednesday 14 October on a charge of house robbery.
