GEORGE NEWS – Family, friends and supporters of Ziyanda Malgas (32) gathered outside the George Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning 14 October to protest against bail being granted to the man accused of her murder.
Carrying placards calling for justice, the group demonstrated ahead of the scheduled bail application of Malgas’ partner, Valdimiro Alfredo Tsambe (28).
Supporters gathered under the banner ’Justice for Ziyanda‘, with organisers encouraging participants to wear pink headscarves or T-shirts as a show of solidarity.
“We stand together, in peace and with one voice, calling for truth, accountability and justice,” read a message shared ahead of the protest.
Tsambe, who faces a charge of murder, made his second appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court on 5 October, when the matter was postponed to today for his bail application
Post-mortem revealed assault and strangulation
Malgas was found dead beside a road in the Zone 8 informal settlement in Thembalethu early on 24 September.
Although her cellphone was still with her and there were no visible injuries, a post-mortem examination subsequently revealed that she had been assaulted and strangled.
Police visited the couple’s flat shortly after Malgas’ body was discovered and Tsambe was arrested.
