GEORGE NEWS - A 27-year-old man from Gauteng has been sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment for drug dealing after being found guilty in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 9 September.
The case is linked to a drug bust worth an estimated R600 000.
The conviction follows a police operation on Friday 15 November 2024, when officers acted on information about two vehicles transporting drugs into George.
Members of the Conville Crime Prevention Unit pulled the vehicles over in the industrial area, where a search led to the discovery of drugs hidden inside food packaging, including two 10kg potato bags, a 25kg bag of maize meal and a 10kg bag of onions.
Police confiscated 12 219 Mandrax tablets during the operation and arrested two men, both from Gauteng.
One of the accused, Themba Ndimandi (27), was convicted and sentenced this week.
His co-accused, a 45-year-old man who remains in custody, is scheduled to appear in court on 14 October 2025. He also faces a charge of drug dealing.
The case is being investigated by Western Cape Provincial Detectives (Narcotics Section) based in George.
