GEORGE NEWS - Police confirmed a series of targeted midweek operations across the Garden Route District that led to multiple drug- and liquor-related arrests, with notable successes in George and Oudtshoorn.
Drugs seized during George operation
A 53-year-old man was arrested in Lawaaikamp on Tuesday 11 November when Conville police members acted on information received and searched a property in Marakeni Street.
Officers uncovered drugs concealed in plastic bottles buried under topsoil on the premises.
Police confiscated 160 grams of tik, seven bankies of tik, and seven mandrax tablets. The suspect faces charges of dealing in drugs and possession of drugs. He will appear in court once charged.
Oudtshoorn: Several arrests and large drug seizures
On Wednesday 12 November at about 09:30, Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention members raided a house in Dahlia Court, Bridgton, following intelligence gathered earlier.
The team seized 62 bankies of tik, 10 grams of tik, 13 full Mandrax tablets, one half Mandrax tablet, 71 grams of dagga, two scales and an undisclosed amount of cash
A 33-year-old woman was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
Later that same day, Dysselsdorp Crime Prevention members executed a search warrant at a residence in Paradise View. The search led to the confiscation of 40 full mandrax tablets and 15 bankies of tik.
Khat recovered on bus near Laingsburg
The ongoing Safer Festive Season operations along provincial entry routes delivered further positive results early on Wednesday morning, 12 November, when Laingsburg police stopped a passenger bus during a vehicle checkpoint at around 04:30
A search of the vehicle uncovered three boxes of Khat hidden near the chassis. Inside, officers found 554 bundles of the drug. Both drivers, aged 46 and 51, were arrested and are facing charges of dealing in drugs. They will appear in court once charged.
860 litres of liquor confiscated during clampdown
A coordinated crackdown on unlicensed liquor outlets resulted in the seizure of 860 litres of alcohol across the Garden Route and Central Karoo Districts between Friday 14 November and Sunday 16 November.
In Matjiesfontein, Laingsburg police raided a premises in Mira Street at about 21:30 on Friday. Officers confiscated 179.25 litres of liquor after the owner failed to produce a valid liquor licence. A 27-year-old man was arrested for selling liquor without a licence.
In Oudtshoorn, two suspects aged 33 and 47 were arrested during separate operations in Muller Street and Du Toit Street in Bridgton.
A total of 13 suspects were arrested during the operation, with the highest numbers recorded in Thembalethu (3) and Plettenberg Bay (3). Successful operations were also executed in Dysselsdorp, Ladismith, De Rust and Groot Brakrivier, where liquor was confiscated and offenders charged.
Road safety operations yield further arrests
Further Safer Festive Season roadblocks, conducted with Western Cape Provincial Traffic, resulted in 23 arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol. Most arrests were recorded in Knysna (8) and George (5).
