GEORGE NEWS - George's one and only best before factory store, Foodz, is moving to bigger and better premises in April.
This entrepreneurial venture started from humble beginnings when life coach and family law mediator Kiki Smit saw a gap in the market to open a blessing store where the community can access massive discounts.
The first store opened in George in 2019, from where the company expanded to Mossel Bay in 2021 and Knysna in 2022, with an added national online store.
Foodz specialises in products near or past their best before date. Certain products are in date, but dented, misprinted or factory overflows.
"A best before date is merely an indication of colour and quality and does not pose a health risk, therefore it is safe to consume," explained Smit.
After nearly five years in Hope Street, Foodz George will now be moving to the old BMW motorcycle building in Glaze Street and will reopen with loads of discounts on Tuesday 2 April. Trading hours are from 09:00 to 17:30.
Not only will the new shop will be visible and accessible from Knysna Road, but it offers plenty of parking for their loyal customers.
"We are excited to welcome our customers to a bigger, better, revamped store with loads of easy-access parking and a bigger variety of products," said Smit.
"At Foodz, you'll find something new every week, just like opening a lucky packet. It's your first-stop shop, before you continue the rest of your shopping.
"With my amazing staff and husband Jay, the one I thank for sourcing all the awesome products, we make a great team that makes the George branch a whopping success. Branch manager Armand Kemp is definitely everyone's favourite person, and the familiar friendly faces of Gartey October, Steph Roelfse and Alex Fillies will still be there to make your day."
