GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Barkley & Oates Inc. Orthotists and Prosthetists have been serving the Southern Cape since 1979, when Mike Barkley began operating regular clinics from his base in Cape Town.
About six years later, he relocated to George and opened his practice in the medical centre under the name of Orthopaedic Services George.
In September 1999, Allan Oates joined Barkley, and the partnership of Barkley & Oates Inc. was formed. The practice has now entered a new era with a move to a new premises, 94 Mitchell Street in George Central.
With Barkley semi-retired, three qualified orthotists/prosthetists, Allan Oates, Francois Ras and Christelle Kilian, are ready, able and enthusiastic to provide a professional service to all who need it.
They regularly attend courses and workshops in order to familiarise themselves with new techniques and components to benefit their patients.
The focus areas of the practice:
- Prosthetics (artificial limbs): The manufacture and fitting of prosthetic limbs. Each prosthesis is made specifically for the individual patient and tailored to their specific needs.
- Foot orthotics (arch supports): From everyday users and the protection of diabetic feet to athletes of various impact levels.
- Bracing (to support joints) to get you back into your chosen activity, from walking/running to golf and other higher impact activities.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank our patients and our referral partners for their patience during our move," says Oates.
