Temporary closure of Binne Street

GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality is presently rehabilitating PW Botha Boulevard, which includes the construction of universally accessible sidewalks, upgrading stormwater pipes and structures, and installing new streetlighting.

This essential infrastructure upgrade will improve safety and accessibility for all road users.

Overall project completion: July 2026

Binne Street closure:

To enable construction activities, Binne Street will be closed between the PW Botha Boulevard and Buitekant Street intersections to all through-traffic.

Access is maintained only for businesses located within the closure area.
Closure starts Monday, 18 August and is expected to remain in effect until mid-November (approximately 3 months).

Key impacts:

No left or right turns into Binne Street from PW Botha Boulevard (both directions).
No access to PW Botha Boulevard from Buitekant Street via Binne Street.
Stop/Go controls on PW Botha Boulevard near Binne Street in both directions.
Vehicle access to and from Nelson Mandela Boulevard into PW Botha Boulevard is open again.
Access to PW Botha Boulevard from Buitekant Street will be via Nelson Mandela Boulevard.
