GEORGE NEWS - Residents are reminded of the refuse removal guidelines and collection schedule over the festive season.
Weekly bag limits (Households)
Households may place out the following on their normal weekly collection day:
7 BLACK bags – non-recyclable (‘wet’) waste.
4 GREEN bags – green and organic waste.
UNLIMITED BLUE bags – clean, recyclable materials.
Branches: Additional tied bundles are allowed, provided they are shorter than 1 metre and can be lifted by one person.
Festive season collection dates
Refuse removal will continue as per normal schedule on:
25 December 2025 (Christmas Day) – Thursday.
26 December 2025 (Day of Goodwill) – Friday.
1 January 2026 (New Year’s Day) – Thursday.
Business refuse collection days
All business refuse is collected on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, including Christmas Day.
Businesses requiring extra collections due to high waste volumes can contact the Refuse Removal Offices to make arrangements (payment applies).
Bag colour guide
BLUE bags: Clean, non-soiled recyclables (plastic, paper, cardboard, glass, etc.)
GREEN bags: Green waste and organic kitchen waste (fruit & vegetable peels, grass cuttings, leaves).
No soil allowed.BLACK bags: Non-recyclable (‘wet’) waste
Important reminders
Place refuse bags out by 7am on collection day
Do not put bags out the day or night before
Wrap broken glass in newspaper before disposal to prevent injuries
A pack of 26 black bags is distributed to households quarterly

Blue bags: Henque Waste trucks

Replacement and extra bags
Participating households receive up to two blue and two green replacement bags per week
Households or businesses needing additional blue bags can collect them from:

Households regularly producing more than four green bags per week are advised to use a private garden or waste removal service.
