GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality wants to remind the public that it will be phasing out its own facility to make online payments for motor vehicle licence renewals.
It must be noted that this only applies to payments made directly to the municipality. Online payments can still be made via the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) portal, while in-person payments can be made at municipal offices.
This decision has been made due to risks associated with the process. Specifically, users often do not attach the documentation prescribed by the National Road Traffic Act, such as the required application form (ALV) and proof of identification.
he online payment method was originally introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic to minimise queues and reduce potential exposure to infection. However, as the legally required documents are often not attached, it is difficult to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
The municipality started phasing out its online payment facility on 1 July and the service will be completely terminated by 31 December.
Users of the municipal online payment service will receive notices regarding the termination with each licence that is issued online and at municipal offices.
Notices will also be displayed at licensing offices, and communicated to those making enquiries by telephone.
Please be reminded that alternative convenient options are available:
- The Blanco drive-through facility remains operational for in-person applications.
- The RTMC online portal is available for those who wish to complete the process online. Licences ordered through the RTMC portal are delivered via courier at a fee of R99.
Blanco drive-through services
- Only motor vehicle licence renewals can be done at the drive-through window. All other transactions must be handled at the Hibernia Street premises.
- Please have your MVL2 printout or notice ready. The notice is received via email and, if you are registered and your contact details are updated, the notice number is received via SMS from the E-Natis system. You cannot be assisted without this. Please note that the RTMC no longer allows you to print a copy of your MVL2 from E-Natis.
- A maximum of two licences can be processed per visit, per person.
- No cash payments will be accepted; payment is via card only.
- To receive a notification of the expiry of your motor vehicle licence, vehicle owners have to register on E-Natis.
This is how you register on E-Natis:
Start by registering a profile online at https://online.natis.gov.za/#/
Choose between registering as a business or individual.
- If you are registering as an individual, enter the following details: identification type, identification number, initials and surname.
- If you are registering as a business, enter the following details: business/company details – identification type, identification number, and company name. Proxy details – identification type, identification number, initials, surname.
- Enter the CAW number of any of the vehicles registered in your name/company name and then proceed to the next step.
- Enter your latest cellphone number and email address accurately, along with your chosen username and password. Click on NEXT.
- You or your company are now registered on the online E-Natis system and will receive your electronic MVL2 via email or notice number via SMS, a month before your motor vehicle license expiry date. Please keep in mind that the RTMC no longer allows you to print a copy of your MVL2 from E-Natis.
- The amount for the renewal of your vehicle will be on the MVL2 notice along with all your motor vehicle particulars.
- If you have previously registered on E-Natis, please ensure that your most recent email address and cellphone number are updated in order to receive notification of your licence expiry.
- Once you receive either an MVL2 notice via email or a notice number via SMS, you may present this to the licensing office for your renewal.
- Overdue licenses may not be renewed with the MVL2 and notice number. A green ALV form is required to renew overdue licences and cases where the owner/company did not receive any of these notifications.
