GEORGE NEWS - As part of the ongoing upgrade of traffic signal infrastructure along the Beach Road corridor, George Municipality will undertake the installation of precast concrete foundation blocks for the new cantilever traffic signal poles at the Beach Road / Mission Road and Beach Road/ Olympic Drive intersections.
These works form part of the broader Traffic Signal and Smart Mobility initiative, linked to the AI Traffic Camera Pilot Programme, which aims to improve road safety, intersection performance, and traffic management across the Beach Road corridor.
Programme of work
Preparation work for installing the concrete foundation blocks took longer than planned, due to the presence of existing services, pushing the original programme back.
The installation of the precast foundations is now scheduled to take place from Tuesday 2 December until Friday 12 December, weather permitting.
Traffic accommodation
From time to time, one lane at the intersections will be closed during off-peak periods to allow work to be done safely. Motorists are requested to:
- Exercise patience and adhere to temporary traffic control measures.
- Observe all road signs and flag personnel on duty; and
- Allow for possible short delays while work is in progress.
Please follow temporary signage and directions of flagmen or pointsmen; allow extra travel time.
Safety notice
For their safety and that of the workforce, all road users are urged to:
- Reduce speed when approaching the work zones
- Remain alert to construction vehicles and personnel and\
- Avoid distractions while travelling through the intersections.
Please follow temporary signage and directions of flagmen or points men; allow extra travel time.
