Sal Marsilio, George:
Go George runs such a first-class service and it is something we in George can really be proud of, but the blue bins at the bus stops are a disgrace due to the quality, lack of cleaning out refuse, and vandalism. On most of these bins the bottoms are falling out and are torn from the supports, while some of them have caught alight and melted.
Can't you please rather remove them, as they detract from your overall image?
I do actually have sympathy for the municipality's department responsible. There is just no respect or concern for the environment and we cannot let the people win who leave for our children and grandchildren a legacy of filth and destruction of our planet.
Trevor Marillac, acting director of Community Services at George Municipality, responds:
Vandalism remains a major concern for the municipality and impacts severely on the current condition of the blue bins. The George Municipal cleansing division is responsible for the cleaning of the CBD blue bins which takes place on a daily basis, with those in the outer-lying areas cleared on a weekly basis.
