We tried to help an elderly family member and are furious because we had to spend 5 hours trying to get hold of someone at Sassa, with no success. Apparently they have no functional telecoms at all. They may as well not exist!
I have spoken to George Tourism, George Herald, been put through to George Municipality and Telkom, and George Department of Medicine as well as the DSD. Did Sassa move - probably to No Man's Land! While it is not the employees at Sassa's fault, I ended up getting an inside connection to another cell number that was "private".
Shivani Wahab, senior manager of Communications at Sassa, replies:
The local office in George has been utilising a shared office space and telephone line with the Department of Social Development. The Department of Social Development has since moved out, along with the telephone line infrastructure. Sassa George Local Office currently has no landline available. The telephone infrastructure is expected to be operational as of 1 October 2019. As an interim measure, social grant beneficiaries may use the following contact number - 072 181 8727- for all social grant related enquiries.
The Sassa George Office has communicated the current contact number to stakeholders and beneficiaries. Once the landline has been installed, the new contact details also will be communicated and marketed accordingly.
