Tony Willmore, George:
With reference to the article on the Map of Africa in the holiday edition of the George Herald. Remskoen Road (the road that leads to the Map of Africa viewpoint in Wilderness Heights) is in the worst condition it has been in for the entire year of 2018. It is in absolutely shocking condition.
Were I a tourist, not a resident, I would save my car from such violent treatment and never again bother to visit the area of Wilderness Heights.
George Municipality responds:
The road was graded on 10 December 2018. There is not a set programme for grading. It is determined by the number of vehicles that use the road and the quality of the gravel material of the road. Roads with very low traffic are graded once a year, whereas roads like Remskoen Road are typically graded once a term, with additional maintenance in the run-up to a busy time such as the December holiday when an increase in traffic is expected.
Additional maintenance is also required when we receive abnormal rain. Further to this, the municipality does ad hoc maintenance when complaints from the public warrant it.
